| ChevronTexaco Announces First Condensate
Production
Sanha Oil Field
On March 1, US-based ChevronTexaco announced
that its Angolan subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Ltd.,
had begun producing condensate from the Sanha Fiel d, which
is located about 23 miles off the coast of Cabinda in Block
0. The Sanha condensate complex is the hub for processing natural
gas from the surrounding oil production facilities. Wells in
the Sanha Field, along with those from neighboring fields, are
now producing approximately 6,000 barrels of condensate per
day. Condensate is a light, valuable oil.
In addition ChevronTexaco is re-injecting gas into the wells
to help maintain reservoir pressure, and to store the gas until
it can be delivered to the proposed liquefied natural gas facility.
The Sanha complex has the capacity to re-inject 500 million
cubic feet of produced gas per day. Re-injection will significantly
reduce the routine flaring of natural gas in Block 0.
Production from the Sanha complex, which will include crude
oil from the nearby Bomboco Fie Id, is expected to reach its
average yearly peak of 100,000 barrels per day of oil, condensate,
and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 2007. LPG production is
scheduled to begin in the second quarter of2005.
ChevronTexaco is the operator of Block 0, with a 39.2 percent
interest. Its partners are Sonangol (41 percent interest); Total
(10 percent interest); and Eni Angola Exploration B.V., (9.8
percent interest).
