| Alrosa to Expand Diamond Exploration in Lunda-Norte Province The Russian diamond company Alrosa plans
to begin a new diamond mining project in Luo, in eastern Angola
became the chairman Lunda Norte province in March. This represents
the second phase of the company's diamond exploration plan.
Alrosa has been mining diamonds in Catoca, Lunda Norte province
for the past six years. During that time the Russian firm has
mined more than 2,690,000 carats of diamonds, worth $169.5 million,
and generated an estimated net profit of $38 million. Alrosa
has already invested about $150 million in its operations in
Angola.
