| Japan Assesses Port Rehabilitation
The International Institute of Coastal Development
(OCDI), a Japanese organization, is conducting feasibilities
studies for the rehabilitation of the Luanda, Lobito, Namibe
and Cabinda ports. The Agency of International Cooperation of
Japan (JICA) will finance the studies, which are expected to
take 15 months to complete. The studies will outline plans to
rehabilitate the ports by 2010, to improve the management and
operation of the ports and assess the human resource requirements
for operating and maintaining port facilities. In March the
OCDI’s first technicians arrived in Angola to begin initial
surveys of all four ports. They expect to complete the initial
surveys by June and will return to Japan to evaluate their findings
during the month of July.
