| Angola - World Bank Sign $125 Million
Grant Agreement
As initially reported in last week’s newsletter,
the Government of Angola and the World Bank signed a $125 million
grant agreement this past week that focuses on combating infectious
diseases and strengthening social service delivery and emergency
preparedness. The agreement was signed by Angola’s planning
minister Ana Dias Lourenco and the World Bank’s director for
Angola and Mozambique Michael Baxter. Approximately $21 million
of the grant will be earmarked for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis
prevention programs, while the balance of the funds will be
used to support the Angolan government’s Social Assistance Fund
(FAS) (approximately $45 million) and the first phase of a multi-sectoral
emergency and rehabilitation project (approximately $57.7 million).
