Council of Ministers Approves Economic
Agreements and Voter Registration Regulations
In addition to approving the “Executive Program for the Rehabilitation
of the National Road System” (see the July 1 ANIP news bulletin
for further details), the Angolan Council of Ministers also
approved a number of other economic and commercial related agreements
in the past week.
Notably the Council:
• Authorized the Angolan state
diamond mining company ENDIAMA to enter into partnership agreements
with Luboia Sarl, Nova Angospencer Sarl, and Metallon Corporation
Limited to mine and prospect for diamonds.
• Approved a project to regulate
and control the Catumbela, Cavaco and Coporolo rivers in central
Benguela province.
• Approved the creation of an
Angolan-Russian inter-governmental commission on economic, technical,
scientific and commercial cooperation.
• Approved commercial agreements
on economic cooperation between Angola and Namibia, and approved
an agreement that will promote and protect investments between
the two countries.
• Approved a two-year education,
health and food aid program to be implemented by the World Food
Program beginning in January 2006.
In addition to economic concerns, the Council of Ministers also
approved a series of measures to prepare for the country’s national
elections. The Council approved the regulations governing the
electoral registration law, the structure of electoral
World Bank Plans $50 Million Program to Rehabilitate Roads
The World Bank’s representative in Angola Laurence Clarke announced
this week that the World Bank would spend $50 million for the
phased rehabilitation of the road linking Luanda and Malange
provinces, as well as for the renovation of tertiary routes,
bridges and the potable water pipe system.
