| Cereal Production Rises 7 Percent Angola’s cereal production increased 7 percent
to 1,904,440 tons of diverse cereals during the 2004/2005 agricultural
campaign. In total 768,372 tons of maize, 108,798 tons of beans,
649,596 tons of sweet potatoes, 308,230 tons of potatoes and
69,444 tons of peanuts were produced. Cereals were cultivated
in more than 3 million hectares of land. In the next agricultural
campaign the Office of Food Security in the Ministry of Agriculture
and Rural Development will launch a program to increase production
in Namibe, Uige, Kwanza Norte, Luanda and Huila provinces.
