| Angolan Customs Revenue Posts Record
Growth
ANIP NEWS, 19.07.2005
In the first six of 2005 Angolan customs
revenues totaled $481 million, the largest amount of customs
receipts ever collected for a six month period. In 2004, customs
revenues were $383.2 million for the first six months. The June
2005 customs receipts alone were nearly $100 million – a record
high for monthly collections, and a 12 percent increase over
the May 2005 receipts. Customs officials attribute the record
high levels to Angola’s growing economy as well as to the customs
modernization and expansion program that the government began
instituting in 2001. The program has improved customs control
of merchandise imports and exports by expanding capacity and
combating corruption within the organization. Prior to the program,
customs revenues for the year 2000 totaled approximately $215.4
million, whereas total receipts for 2004 were $828.1 million.
